Sometimes the rich guys do get all the fun
We have known for quite some time that the next generation Ferrari Enzo was on its way. Ferrari does a great job of not releasing information about a new model until the car is in production. In the case of the new Ferrari FXX by the time you heard that the car was a reality, every single unit to be built was sold This should not be the last incarnation of the Enzo, and we sure hope it’s not, but this auto will be, for the next year or two, the car to own for the private jet set. We can now safely predict that by 2015 Ferrari will produce a 1000 horsepower street legal car. The new FXX will get only 800 horsepower, is not street legal, and will be sold only to guys who already own at least one Ferrari. If you haven’t received your invitation to purchase already then it is probably too late. But consider this, Indy race cars have 750 horsepower and aren’t street legal either. Plus they require a whole lot of daily maintenance.
For 1.8 million dollars you get a track ready Ferrari that will be substantially rarer then the Enzo with just 20 copies being built. The 6.2 liter engine is a bigger version of the 6.0 liter Enzo engine but it is the extra 140 horses that everybody is talking about. Quick, try 3.1 seconds 0-60 M.P.H. this car is so fast Ferrari will throw in a set of high speed driving lessons and a membership to team Ferrari with every purchase.
The car looks a lot like the Enzo but is not a car that most of us will ever get to see. Ferrari priced the car high because the Enzo’s were quickly selling at twice the list price, depriving Ferrari of the money that they could have made. Porsche built the limited edition 959 in 1983 and had no problem selling the complete run of 325 at 1 million each. Then the 420 horsepower engine was state of the art, now 20 years later it takes a little more power to enter the realm of the World’s fastest production car.
