This Deuce is No Dunce With no end in sight to the current retro car era GM has borrowed from the Ford motor company to create a Dearborn Deuce Convertible. It is based on the 1932 Ford Roadster that has enjoyed much fame both by its nickname the “Little Deuce Coupe” and by being the vehicle of choice to be turned into a hot rod by tuners. We only have to go back to the fifties when muscle cars ruled to be reminded how important speed was. The 32 Ford Roadster due mostly to its light weight but also helped by being a convertible became one of the fastest cars around when properly modified. Back in the days of “cruisin” few cars could deliver the overall first impression that this car could.
Like many other great high end cars, this one began life as a one of a kind. Built for comedian car collector Jay Leno with a Corvette L7 engine the original Bowtie Coupe was an immediate star among automobile collectors. This pent-up demand was obviously sufficient to demonstrate to the builders that a limited production run would sell out and they could be built for less then they would sell for. The price will be $120,000 to $135,000 with your choice of 505 horsepower Corvette L7 engine, or 500 horsepower 6.1 liter dodge Hemi or a 350 horsepower 4.6 liter V8 Ford Mustang Cobra engine. Current plans are to build 100 of each of these versions this year. They will be built by American Specialty Cars in Michigan and sold through Connecticut based Hotrods & Horsepower among these cars will also be an historic official 75th Anniversary built with the blessings of the Ford Motor Company.
The Dearborn Deuce will be available both as a coupe and as a convertible both will be Rear wheel drive with 20 inch rear and 18 inch front custom aluminum wheels. The wheels without the constraint of wheel wells are the most visually interesting element of the 30’s hotrods. The Dearborn Deuce does not disappoint in this category. The reason why these cars are so popular is that they are motorcycle fast and with all new components very dependable. They probably won’t be anybody’s first car, or even second for that matter but for the serious American car collector they will quickly become a must have addition. For information as to how to purchase one of these instant classics visit hotrodsandhorsepower.com where you will also find versions with smaller engines starting at $85,000. If you are wondering how close these follow the original, almost too closely as the convertible top mimics the original which was not all that great of a design Henry Ford himself once said. To achieve this accuracy an original 32 was used in a 3-D scanner to get the actual dimensions exactly right. Although none of the manufactures will talk about speed, it has to be around mid 3 second 0 to 60 times and forget about track times as this vehicle is truly a straight line runner.
